DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS
Indiana Diploma through the Class of 2028
Students must complete minimum requirements for one of the four Indiana diploma types and earn additional elective credits.
- Core 40 Diploma: WHS requires 46 credits
- Core 40 Diploma with Academic Honors: WHS requires 48 credits
- Core 40 Diploma with Technical Honors: WHS requires 48 credits
- General Diploma: WHS requires 46 credits
New Indiana Diploma beginning with the Class of 2029
The Indiana State Board of Education adopted new course and credit requirements for earning a high school diploma beginning with the Class of 2029. Students in the Class of 2026, 2027, and 2028 may opt into the new Indiana diploma.
- Base Diploma (46 credits)
- Diploma with Honors Enrollment Seal (48 credits)
- Diploma with Honors Employment Seal (48 credits)
- Diploma with Honors Enlistment and Service Seal (48 credits)
- Diploma with Honors+ Enrollment Seal (48 credits)
- Diploma with Honors+ Employment Seal (48 credits)
- Diploma with Honors+ Enlistment and Service Seal (48 credits)
Graduation Pathways (Class of 2023-2028)
The purpose of the Graduation Pathways is to create an educated and talented workforce able not just to meet the needs of business and higher education, but able to succeed in all postsecondary endeavors. To account for the rapidly changing, global economy, every K-12 student needs to be given the tools to succeed in some form of quality postsecondary education and training, including an industry recognized certificate program, an associate’s degree program, or a bachelor’s degree program. The Graduation Pathways seek to ensure that every Hoosier student graduates from high school with
- a broad awareness of and engagement with individual career interests and associated career options
- a strong foundation of academic and technical skills, and
- demonstrable employability skills that lead directly to meaningful opportunities for postsecondary education, training, and gainful employment.
With the passage of Graduation Pathways, students are now able to individualize their graduation requirements to align to their postsecondary goals. No longer must all students fit into the same academic mold, but rather, they can choose the options that best meet their postsecondary needs and aspirations. Students can create pathways that serve their educational interests and prepare them for postsecondary educational and career opportunities.
Students in the graduating class of 2023 and beyond must satisfy all three of the following Graduation Requirements by completing one of the associated Graduation Pathway Options:
ONE: HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA
Earn credits toward one of the cour diploma types:
- Core 40
- Academic Honors
- Technical Honors
- General
TWO: LEARN AND DEMONSTRATE EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS
Learn employability skills standards through locally developed programs. Employability skills are demonstrated by one of the following:
- Project-Based Learning Experience
- Service-Based Learning Experience
- Work-Based Learning Experience
THREE: POSTSECONDARY-READY COMPETENCIES
Meet at least one of these competencies
- Honors Diploma: Fulfill all requirements of either the Academic or Tehcnical Honors diploma
- SAT: Reading/Writing 480; Math 530
- ACT: English 18; Reading 22; Math 22; Science 23 (2 out of 4 needed with at leaste one in English/Reading and one in Math/Science)
- ASVAB: Minimum AFQT score of 31
- State and industry-recognized credential or certification
- Federally-recognized apprenticeship
- Career-Technical Education Concentrator: Must earn a C average in at least 4-6 non-duplicative courses (Principles course, Concentrator A and Concentraor B) within a particular program or program of study
- AP/IB/Dual Credit/Cambridge International courses or CLEP Exams: Must earn a C average or higher in at least three courses
- Locally created pathway that meets the framework from and earns the approval of the State Board of Education
